No, I am not a religious person, so I don’t believe in God. Plenty of scientists have religious beliefs though, so the two topics can work together.

I believe that science – or rather what we call the “scientific method” – can give us reliable knowledge about the world around us. That actually does require some “belief”, because logically I can’t prove that I’m not just a brain in a vat being fed the illusion of the world through some wires (like the Matrix).

But I don’t personally believe in God. That’s just my choice, and there are plenty of scientists who do believe in God. One of my colleagues is a Mormon Bishop – and he’s also a great marine biologist.

      Hi Mrboffy

Personally I’m an atheist, but I do know plenty of scientists who do believe in God. I don’t, because I don’t think there’s any evidence of any higher power or that humans are the only form of intelligent llife in our universe.

I think religion is a matter of faith though, and that there’s no evidence for it is part of that faith. Science, on the other hand, is a matter of evidence, so they’re two really different things, and plenty of people do manage to be both scientific and religious. I do have problems with people denying scientific evidence for things like the age of our planet and how it was created and evolved in preference for a literal interpretation of the bible though, because the scientific evidence really is overwhelming.

Well I believe in science, in the sense that it is a way of doing things and I believe it exists. In the same way that I believe knitting is a way of doing things, and my Granny does it and she exists.
I don’t believe in God as unlike my Granny or the jumpers she makes, I have never had any good reason to believe in God’s existence.
