I worked full time, although not as a scientist, while I was doing my undergraduate degree – all my lectures and lab sessions etc. were in the evenings! I started my PhD in 1998, which is really a job in itself even though you’re technically a student, then I was employed as a postdoctoral scientist once I finished my PhD in 2002. I had a career break for 18 months after my first son was born and 10 months maternity leave after my second, but apart from that have been doing postdoc work since finishing my PhD.
I listen to lots of music but not as much as I used to! It was one of the things I really appreciated about living on my own – I could listen to whatever music I liked whenever I liked. My family are not so appreciative of my tastes in music though unfortunately, although my 5 year old is starting to like loud rock music too!
