It depends on what kind of worm!

The normal earthworm, like what you will find in your garden will probably not survive being cut in 2. Worms can tolerate a small part of their body being cut off, but not being cut in half!

However, There is a type of flatworm called planaria, which can survive being cut into half and 2 worms will form!

I’ve heard that they can survive if you do that.

I wouldn’t do it myself though – it sounds like unnecessary animal experimentation to me!

If we’re talking earthworms, yes. The half with the head end will grow a new tail. Earthworms are members of the group of animals called the annelids, which all have segmented bodies. The neat thing about that body plan is that if you lose some segments, you can usually grow new ones to replace them.

Depends if you do it lengthwise or widthwise…
