Tri-nitro-toluene. It was first made to be used as a yellow dye – and only later people realised it was also useful as an explosive. One of the things that made it better than other explosives used before TNT was discovered is that it was more stable to carry around, and is waterproof, and could be safely melted and poured. However, it is toxic and handling it without protection can make your skin turn yellow, and accidentally eating any makes your wee turn red!
