I love doing experiments, especially looking at embryos and cells under the microscope, I find it fascinating looking at how such a tiny little thing can become a whole human being! My least favourite part is writing things, and doing calculations, I’m not very good at maths!

Seeing things that no-one has ever seen before. There are six billion people on Earth, and we’ve had ten thousand years or so of recorded history, so its an amazing feeling and priviledge to realise that you’re the first person ever to see the underwater landscape where we’re exploring, or the new species of deep-sea creatures that we find. It makes me realise what an amazing world we live in, and how much I enjoy having the opportunity to explore it in my lifetime.

Definitely the “getting interesting results” bit! Usually it takes a lot of work to get to that stage, sometimes even years, so you get a real buzz when it works and you finally understand something new!
